2017 German Microfilm Project
As most of you are now aware, as of August 31, 2017 the LDS will cease making films available to order for viewing at your local Family History Center. However, the LDS has left it up to each FHC director to decide whether or not to keep the existing films that are on permanent loan at their FHC. The Director of the Plainview, New York FHC, has decided that the current films on permanent loan, as well as any films ordered before August 31st, will remain at the Plainview, New York FHC and be available for researchers now and in the future.
Based on the above, we are asking GGG members, on a voluntary basis, to order 1, 2, or more films to be sent to the Plainview, New York FHC. They will then be available to all those researching their German ancestors. The cost per film is $7.50.
There are several ways to accomplish the ordering:
1. You order films which are pertinent to your research. Just let us know what films you ordered. We will then label the boxes and place them in the permanent collection.
2. You want a particular film but want us to do the ordering. Mail us a check to cover the costs and let us know what to order.
3. You don’t know what to order but would like to order and pay for the films yourself. We can provide a list of what films to order.
4. You don’t know what to order and leave the ordering to us. Send us a check and let us know that you will want us to order the film on your behalf. This is the preferred method for us. You can also donate to this project below on this page.
We will try not to duplicate what Images of the data are already available on line, or in our collection at the Plainview, New York Family History Center. If you are uncertain whether or not the film or images are available elsewhere, send us an email and we will verify this for you. If you do order films, please let us know via email the film numbers you ordered.
The email address for this project is firstname.lastname@example.org
Checks should be made out to: GGG, PO Box 1004, Kings Park, NY 11754. Please include the following on the check: Microfilm Project.
Please remember that the cutoff date is August 31, however we will need time to order the films through the normal ordering process. If you are going to participate, please submit your order by August 20, 2017.
